This project uses virtual reality to provide students with a unique opportunity to engage with paleontological finds that are typically inaccessible. The experience depicts an active excavation site and provides students with an opportunity to engage in an inaccessible environment. The opportunity to see and interact with fossils, examining their relationships with other components of the site in a way that a photograph simply cannot offer, provides a new perspective for the classroom.
The experience has no sound so that the students' attention is drawn toward the instructor. During the experience, the students can view an interactive map that shows the actual locations of the fossil sites. Clicking on a location will open a table with high-resolution photo-scans of the fossils, allowing the students to see and engage with the specimens closely.
